Depress the function switch which corresponds to the
program source. Turn the volume control down first
before selecting a different function switch while the
sound from one program source is being reproduced.

Depress this switch for AM broadcasts.

Use this control to adjust the output level to the
speakers and headphones. Turn it clockwise to increase
t h e o u t p u t l e v e l . N o s o u n d w i l l b e h e a r d i f y o u s e t i t t o
"o."
(} MUTING SWITCH
Set this switch to the *20d8 position to attenuate the
audio output by 20d8. There is no need to adjust the
v o l u m e c o n t r o l i f y o u t h i s s w i t c h w h e n t u r n i n g d o w n
t h e a u d i o o u t p u t t e m p o r a r i l y a n d w h e n c h a n g i n g o v e r
records or tapes.
L O U D N E S S S W I T C H
W h e n l i s t e n i n g t o a p e r f o r m a n c e w i t h t h e v o l u m e
control turned down, depress this switch and the bass
a n d t r e b l e w i l l b e a c c e n t u a t e d .
W h e n t h e v o l u m e i s l o w , t h e h u m a n e a r f i n d s i t h a r d e r t o
h e a r t h e b a s s a n d t r e b l e t h a n w h e n t h e v o l u m e i s h i g h .
The loudness switch is thus designed to compensate for
t h i s d e f i c i e n c y . B y d e p r e s s i n g t h i s s w i t c h , t h e b a s s a n d
treble come through much more strongly and the sound
t a k e s o n a p u n c h e v e n w h e n t h e v o l u m e c o n t r o l i s
turned down,

Use this control to balance the volume of the left and
right channels. First, however, set the mode switch to
M O N O . l f t h e s o u n d a p p e a r s t o b e l o u d e r o n t h e r i g h t , i t
m e a n s t h a t t h e v o l u m e o f t h e r i g h t c h a n n e l i s h i g h e r .
T u r n t h e b a l a n c e c o n t r o l t o t h e l e f t a n d a d j u s t . C o n -
v e r s e l y . i f t h e s o u n d a p p e a r s t o b e l o u d e r o n t h e l e f t , i t
m e a n s t h a t t h e v o l u m e o f t h e l e f t c h a n n e l i s h i g h e r .
Therefore, turn the balance control to the right and
adjust. After adjusting. return the mode switch to
S T E R E O .

Employ for tape playback or to monitor a recording in
progress.

When this switch is set to 'l SHz, a 6dB/oct attenuation
c a n b e p r o v i d e d { o r f r e q u e n c i e s b e l o w 1 5 H 2 . T h i s
m e a n s t h a t y o u c a n c a n c e l o u t n o i s e i n t h e u l t r a - l o w
frequencies which is generated by low-pitched rumble
f r o m a t u r n t a b l e a n d o t h e r f o r m s o f d i s t o r t i o n .
A l t h o u g h t h i s n o i s e c a n n o t b e h e a r d , i t c a n g e n e r a t e
i n t e r m o d u l a t i o n d i s t o r t i o n a n d d a m a g e t h e s p e a k e r s .
@ B A S S A N D T R E B L E C O N T R O L S
W h e n t u r n e d c l o c k w i s e f r o m t h e O F F p o s i t i o n , t h e
r e s p o n s e i n t h e b a s s a n d t r e b l e r a n g e , r e s p e c t i v e l y , i s
boosted. Turning
counterclockwise attenuates the
reSponse.
A t t h e O F F p o s i t i o n t h e t o n e c o n t r o l c i r c u i t i s b y p a s s e d
and frequency response is flat.
