1. Follow the procedures in
"Before You
 
2. Remove the keyboard.
 
3. Remove the metal shield:
a.  Loosen the captive metal-shield screws.
b.  Lift the shield on the side near the screw holes, slide the shield tabs out from under the edge of the computer base, and lay the shield aside.
 
4. If a modem is not already installed, go to
a.  Remove the screw that secures the modem to the system board, and set the screw aside.

b.  Pull straight up on the attached pull-tab to lift the modem out of the modem connector on the system board, and disconnect the modem cable.
 
5. Connect the modem cable to the new modem.
NOTICE:
The connectors are keyed to ensure correct insertion. If you feel resistance, check the connectors and realign the card.
 
6. Align the modem with the modem-screw hole and press the modem into the modem connector on the system board.
 
7. Install the modem screw to secure the modem to the system board.
 
8. Replace the metal shield.
 
9. Replace the keyboard.
