Installing the simple-swap hard disk drive backplate

To install the replacement simple-swap hard disk drive backplate, complete the
following steps.

1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and "Installation guidelines"
on page 31.
2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cord and
all external cables (see "Turning off the server" on page 19).
3. Remove all simple-swap hard disk drives (see "Removing a simple-swap hard
disk drive" on page 56).
4. Remove the server cover (see "Removing the cover" on page 40).
5. You may remove the system fan cage to obtain more room:
a. Make a note of where cables are attached to the fan board; then,
disconnect them from the connectors on the fan board.
b. Grasp the system fan cage by the blue grip points.
c. Press the retention latches toward each other; then, lift the system fan
cage out of the server.
6. Remove the backplate from the server. Press the release latches and rotate
out the top of the backplate; then, lift the backplate out of the server by pulling
and lifting it up.
