Chapter 6 Approaches and DP/STARs
The following steps would need to be performed if a missed approach is
required.
10. Upon reaching RW17 and not seeing the runway you decide to per-
form a missed approach. Remember, the KLN 94 will not
automatically sequence past the missed approach point. This is
shown on the NAV 4 page by not showing any lines connecting way-
points that are past the MAP. Until the missed approach procedure is
initiated the KLN 94 will continue to provide guidance along the 176°
FAF to MAP course and the To/Fr indicator will indicate "From." To
perform the published missed approach procedure, press D to bring
up the direct-to page. The default waypoint will usually be the first
waypoint of the missed approach procedure. In this case the first way-
point is the missed approach holding point ANQUM. Confirm this
waypoint as the direct to waypoint and press F.
NOTE: If ATC gives you instructions for a missed approach that is differ-
ent from the published missed approach procedure, it is always possible
for you to select a different direct to waypoint than the default direct to
waypoint.
11. Since you are going to enter a holding pattern at ANQUM it is neces-
sary to use the OBS mode. Press the OBS button to enter the OBS
mode. In the OBS mode the KLN 94 uses the course selected on the
external CDI or HSI. Since the external indicator was already set to
176° for the final approach course it is set to provide guidance to
ANQUM.
NOTE: A message is provided 4 NM from ANQUM if the KLN 94 is still in
Leg mode as a reminder: "If Required Select OBS".
12. Upon reaching ANQUM select the 356° inbound course on the exter-
nal HSI or CDI and enter the holding pattern using standard entry
procedures. Since the unit is in OBS mode you will fly as if using a
VOR receiver to hold at a VOR. When passing inbound over ANQUM
there will be no waypoint sequencing and the To/From indicator on
the HSI or CDI will change to "From." When leaving the holding pat-
tern for another approach or another airport, remember to put the unit
back into Leg mode.
NOTE: If another attempt at the approach is desired after holding, it is
necessary to manually change the active waypoint. On approaches
where the FAF and the missed approach holding point are at the same
place then the KLN 94 will automatically change the active waypoint to the
FAF when you change from OBS to LEG. Make sure to make this change
as soon as possible to ensure you get into the approach active mode.
