Clean any mud, dirt, debris, etc. from the area
around the trimmer head; otherwise, it will
make it more difficult to service.
Remove the three-sided knob; it has a left-
hand thread, so turn it clockwise to remove.
Remove the tension spring.
Remove the trimmer head from the drive bolt.
Clean any debris, dirt, or loose string away
from the drive bolt and the gear case.
Separate the two halves (drum and spool) of
the trimmer head, then remove any remaining
nylon line from the spool.
Measure about 12 feet (3.7 meters) of new
line, then thread one end through the eyelet
on the spool. Pull the line until the two lengths
are equal.
Hold the spool in your hand by the manual-
feed grip. Wind both lines together around the
spool, turning the spool in the direction shown
by the arrow.
When winding, it is important not to allow the
two lines to cross over each other. Position a
finger between the lines as you turn the spool
to prevent the lines from becoming crossed.
