STP Port Settings

In addition to setting Spanning Tree parameters for use on the switch level, the
switch module enables the configuration of Spanning Tree Protocol on individual
ports.
To define individual ports, highlight STP Port Settings on the Configure Spanning
Tree menu in "Spanning Tree" on page 99 and press Enter. The following window
opens:
Toggle the View Ports field to the range of ports to be configured. Enter the port
number or port range in the Configure Port from [ ] to [ ] field. When the STP
State is Enabled, you can set the spanning tree port cost and priority.

The Forward Delay can be from 4 to 30 seconds. This is the time any port
on the switch spends in the listening state while moving from the blocking
state to the forwarding state.
A priority for the switch can be set from 0 to 65535. Zero is equal to the
highest priority. This number is used in the voting process between switches
on the network to determine which switch will be the root switch. A low
number indicates a high priority, and a high probability that this switch will
be elected as the root switch.
Note: Observe the following formulas when setting the preceding
parameters:
v Max. Age ≤ 2 x (Forward Delay - 1 second)
v Max. Age ≥ 2 x (Hello Time + 1 second)
Enter the range of ports to be configured and displayed.
Enter the specific ports to be configured, inputting the starting port in the
first field and the ending port in the second field.
The spanning tree port cost can be set between 1 and 65535. The lower
the cost, the greater the probability that the port will be chosen as the
designated port (chosen to forward packets).
