Installing or removing a PCI card

This section provides instructions on how to install or remove a PCI card.
Installing a PCI card
Attention
Do not open your server or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Safety Information and the

This section provides instructions on how to install a PCI card.
Important: Before you install optional hardware devices, make sure that the server is working correctly. If
the server is not working correctly, refer toDiagnostics for your server for detailed diagnostic information. To
obtain the publication, go to:

To install a PCI card, do the following:
Note: Use any documentation that comes with the PCI card and follow those instructions in addition to
the instructions in this section.
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then, disconnect all
power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the server.
2. Remove the server cover. See Removing the server cover.
3. Remove the riser card assembly. See Removing the riser card assembly.
4. Locate an appropriate PCI card slot on the riser card assembly. Then, remove the screw on the side that
secures the metal slot cover.
5. Install the PCI card into the slot on the riser card assembly (

6. Reinstall the riser card assembly into the card slot on the system board. See Installing the riser card
assembly.
7. Connect any cables to the PCI card.
