Adaptive Tx Power Control

This section describes how to configure the Access Point 530's Adaptive Tx
Power Control (ATPC) feature. Several strategies for configuring Adaptive Tx
Power Control are detailed in Appendix C, "Adaptive Tx Power Control Use
Cases".

Feature Overview

Adaptive Tx Power Control is a group of advance radio settings that can
optimize channel coverage and reduce interference from neighboring APs by
dynamically reducing the transmit power levels of the AP 530. When it is
enabled, ATPC is applied independently to each radio. ATPC assesses and
adjusts power levels about once every second.
For ATPC to adapt to neighboring APs, they all must be operating on the
same channel and all must have ATPC enabled.
Once it is enabled, ATPC is controlled by setting four parameters:
Adaptive Mode
Avoid Neighbor APs
RF Group Name
Tx Power Reduction Limit
How the ATPC feature responds to the presence of other APs depends on how
these parameters are combined.
Scope: Power-levels can be configured to:
Adapt to selected APs and ignore others (by configuring the RF Group
Name setting), or
To adapt to all neighboring APs (by choosing Avoid Neighbor APs).
Adaptive Mode: ATPC can either:
Adapt to both APs and clients (by choosing AP+Clients mode), or
Adapt only to other APs while providing full power to clients (by
choosing AP mode).
Power Reduction Limit: The maximum amount of signal attenuation
when adapting to neighboring APs can be specified to guarantee a
minimum power level (by setting the Tx Power Reduction Limit).
