Troubleshooting guide

Operation

The remote control does not work.
The remote control and main unit are using
different codes. Change the code on the remote
control.
Unit's display
Software (firmware) is updating when "UPD / "
is displaying on the unit's display. Wait until the
update is completed. (
The HOLD function is activated. (
The unit is on but cannot be operated.
Drive has not been selected properly.
Cannot tune channels.
Check the connections.
Startup is slow.
Startup takes time in the following situations:
–A disc is inserted.
–The clock is not set.
–Immediately after a power failure or the AC mains
lead is connected.
–When the BD-J application is executing.
–When the "Power Save in Standby" is activated.

Recording, timer recording and
copying
Cannot record.
Cannot copy.
Some broadcasts are copyright protected.
You cannot record/copy to the disc.
Timer recording does not work properly.
Refer to "Notes on timer recording" (
Failed timer recordings are displayed in grey
with
on the Timer Recording screen. (
When you programme a timer recording, check the
screen icons. If "!" is displayed, this timer
programme may not be recorded because:
–there is not enough space left.
–the number of possible titles has reached its
maximum.
–programmes are deactivated, etc.

indicated number button at
the same time for more than

A part or whole of a recorded title has been
lost.
If there is a power failure or the AC mains lead is
disconnected from the household mains socket
while recording or editing, the title may be lost or
the HDD may become unusable.
We cannot offer any guarantee regarding lost
programmes.
Auto Renewal Recording does not work
properly.
The programme will not be overwritten in the
following cases:
–the programme is protected
–any programme is being played back
–a screen such as DIRECT NAVIGATOR is
displayed
Instead, the programme will be saved as a
separate programme and that will be overwritten.

Play

Cannot playback.
The disc is dirty, scratched or marked. (
You tried to play a +RW that needs to have a Top
Menu on the equipment used for recording.
[BD-R] [BD-RE]
Set "Play Video ( AVCHD ) on BD-RE / BD-R" to
"On" and the playback may be possible (
The disc that is recorded by using other equipment
and not finalised may not be able to playback.
Audio and video momentarily pause.
(DVD-R DL and +R DL only) When playing a title
recorded on both layers, the unit automatically
switches between layers and plays the title in the
same way as a normal programme. However,
video and audio may momentarily cut out when the
unit is switching layers.
BD-Video or DVD-Video is not played.
You have set a rating level. (
Parental Control, DVD-Video Parental Control)
Ensure the disc is for the correct BD-Video region
code or DVD-Video region number, and is not

You have forgotten your PIN number for
parental control.
You want to cancel the rating level.
