13. Reconnect the cables of the components secured to the front bezel to the system board.

Replacing the system board

Attention:
Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding "Important Safety Information"
on page 1.
This section provides instructions on how to replace the system board.
To replace the system board, do the following:
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect
all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.
2. Place a soft, clean towel or cloth on the desk or surface. Hold the sides of your computer and gently lay
it down so that the screen is against the surface and the cover is facing up.
3. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 83.
4. Locate the system board. See "Locating major FRUs and CRUs (for models with the 20-inch display)"
on page 73 or "Locating major FRUs and CRUs (for models with the 23-inch display)" on page 76.
5. Remove the rear I/O assembly to gain access to the system board. See "Removing and reinstalling
the rear I/O assembly" on page 85.
6. Remove the heat sink. See "Replacing the heat sink" on page 93.
Note: Place the heat sink on its side so that the thermal grease on the bottom of it does not get in
contact with anything.
7. Remove the microprocessor. See "Replacing the microprocessor" on page 94.
8. Remove the memory modules. See "Installing or replacing a memory module" on page 86.
9. Remove the battery. See "Replacing the battery" on page 111.
10. Remove the heat sink and fan assembly for GPU if your computer has one. See "Replacing the heat
sink and fan assembly for GPU" on page 108.
11. Remove the card reader if your computer has one. See "Replacing the card reader" on page 106.
12. Remove the ExpressCard if your computer has one. See "Replacing the ExpressCard" on page 107.
13. Remove the WiFi card if your computer has one. See "Replacing the WiFi card" on page 102.
14. Note the locations of all cables connected to the system board and disconnect all cables. See "Locating
parts on the system board" on page 79.
