• Water heater's capacity too small (or usage too high)
• Thermosta c Mixing Valve faulty/set too low
• Non-Func oning lower thermostat
• Hot and cold pipe connec ons reversed
• Leak in plumbing system
• Melted dip tube
• Low supply voltage
• Malfunc oning lower hea ng element
• Non-func oning thermostat
• Grounded/shorted hea ng element

• Excessive water pressure
• Thermal expansion
• Debris under valve seat

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breaker.
Check for power.
Replace upper hea ng element.
See page 19, step 5.
Check hot water at other faucets.
Check/replace upper thermostat. (See page 23)
Check hot water side of home's plumbing system
for leaks.
Set thermostats to desired temperature.
See page 15.
Replace lower hea ng element. (See page 22)
Install adequately sized water heater
(or reduce usage).
Check hot water at other faucets.
Replace lower thermostat. (See page 23)
Correct piping.
Check hot water side of home's plumbing system
for leaks.
Check/replace dip tube.
Check power (voltage).
Check lower element and replace if burned out.
