VSA Backup system user guide
Abstract
This is the user guide for the HP StoreOnce VSA Backup system. It describes all tasks that can be carried out by an administrator
or operator from the Web Management Console (GUI). Some of these tasks may also be carried out from the StoreOnce
Command Line Interface (CLI) and the some of those commands are included in this guide. This guide does not describe all
tasks that can only be carried out from the StoreOnce CLI and/or the HP StoreOnce Enterprise Manager (SEM) GUI.

There are two types of user account: admin and user. Two users, one for each account type, are created automatically when the system is installed: Administrator: This account allows authorized users to create and edit management and StoreOnce functions via the GUI and CLI. The initial user name and login is Admin and admin, Getting started...
  • Page 7: Deployment Of The Virtual Storage Appliance

NOTE: There is a third account reserved for HP Support to which no other users have access. However, it is important to know that the HP Support user can only gain access to this account via the Admin login. To find out what type of user rights you have, look at the title bar. This shows your User Name and User Role.

Once you select another topic from the Navigator, it displays the appropriate page for that selection. Some Topic pages require you to select an item, such as a library, NAS share or Catalyst store, in the top half of the page to view details that are specific to the selected item in the lower half of page.

This license should be converted to a full, perpetual license before it expires. At the end of the 60-day period, your data is still secure on the HP StoreOnce VSA, but its status is changed to read-only until you add and apply the full license. The Read-Write status is restored as soon as the full license is applied, even if this is after the 60-day period.

The table below illunstrates maximum configurations for libraries and drives, but this number may be limited if you have already created NAS shares and Catalyst stores. For more detailed device configuration examples, refer to the HP Best Practices for VTL, NAS, StoreOnce Catalyst and Replication Implementations.

WARNING! All data on the device will be deleted. The library's deduplication store is also deleted. It may take some time to delete all the files and free space on the HP StoreOnce Backup system. Emulation types for tape devices HP StoreOnce Backup systems emulate a range of physical tape devices, which are listed below.

NOTE: You can also delete cartridges by reducing the number of slots on the Devices page, but this will only remove the highest blank slots. Once the Delete operation reaches a slot number that contains data, it will not allow you to reduce the number further on the Details page, even if earlier slots are blank.

Select Housekeeping from the HP StoreOnce menu item to display current housekeeping activity as two graphs: Load and Jobs. There are four tabs that display housekeeping statistics for: Overall, Libraries, Shares and StoreOnce Catalyst. Once on the Housekeeping page users with an Admin login can also configure blackout windows for housekeeping.
  • Page 106 These graphs are for illustrative purposes, to give an indication of the amount of housekeeping workload on the StoreOnce Backup system. Deleting a single VTL cartridge, Catalyst Object, or NAS file does not necessarily equate to a single housekeeping job being added to the queue.
  • Page 107: Configuring Blackout Windows

Click Pause Housekeeping to pause housekeeping altogether (perhaps while you decide how best to configure blackout windows). This setting applies to all devices, libraries and shares on the HP StoreOnce Backup system. It is not retained if there is a power failure or the HP StoreOnce Backup system is powered down.

These graphs are updated every 5 seconds and provide useful feedback about the activity on the HP StoreOnce Backup system. See the HP Best Practices for VTL, NAS, StoreOnce Catalyst and Replication implementations for more information about using these graphs in conjunction with other information to decide whether it may be necessary to take action to improve performance and what action may be appropriate.
