Reinstall the oil filler cap/dipstick securely.
Thoroughlywashyour hands with soapandwater assoonaspossibleafter
handlingusedoil.
Checking SparkPlug
DO NOT checkfor sparkwith sparkplug removed.DONOT crankenginewith
sparkplug removed.
Ifthe engine hasbeenrunning, t he muffler will bevery hot. Becarefulnot
to touchthe muffler.
NOTE: C heck t he sparkplugonceaseason o r every25 hours of operation. C hange
the sparkplugonceaseason or every100hours.Toensure properengineoperation,
the sparkplug mustbeproperlygapped andfreeof deposits.
1.
Remove t he sparkplugbootandusea sparkplugwrenchto remove the
plug.SeeFigure19.
2.
Visually inspectthe sparkplug.Discard the sparkplugif thereisapparent
wear, o r if the insulatoriscracked or chipped.Clean the sparkplugwith a
wirebrushif it isto be reused.
3.
Measure the pluggapwith afeelergauge. C orrect asnecessary b ybending
sideelectrode. S eeFigure 20.Thegapshouldbesetto .02-.03 inches (0.60-
0.80mm).
4.
Check thatthe sparkplug washer isin goodconditionandthreadthe spark
plug inbyhandto preventcross-threading.
5.
Afterthe sparkplug isseated, t ightenwith asparkplugwrenchto compress
the washer.
NOTE: Wheninstallinganewsparkplug,tighten 1/2-turnafterthe sparkplug
seats to compress t he washer. W henreinstalling a usedsparkplug,tighten 1/8- to
1/4-turnafter the sparkplugseats to compress t hewasher.
