A.
This appliancehas a pilot which is lighted by a
piezoelectricigniter. Whenlightingthe pilot, follow these
instructions exactly.
B. BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around the appliancearea
for gas. Besure to smell next to the floor becausesome
gas is heavierthan air andwill settle on the floor.
WHATTO DO IF YOUSMELLGAS:

Donot try to light any appliance.

Donot touch any electricalswitch; do not useany
phonein your building.

Immediatelycall your gas supplier from a
neighbor's phone. Follow the gas supplier's
instructions.
o
If you cannot reachyour gas supplier,call the fire
department.
C. Useonly your hand to push in or turn the gas control
temperatureknob. Neveruse tools. Ifthe knob will not
push in or moveby hand,don't try to repairit, call a
qualified service technician.Forceor attemptedrepair
may result in a fire or explosion.
D. Do not use this applianceif any part has been under
water. Immediatelycall a qualified servicetechnician to
inspect the appliance.Waterheaterssubjectedto flood
conditions or anytime the gas controls, main burner or
pilot havebeen submergedin waterrequirereplacement
of the entire water heater.
DO NOTUSETHISAPPLIANCE IFTHEREHASBEEN AN
IGNITION OFVAPORS. I mmediately call aqualifiedservice
technician to inspect the appliance.Waterheaters
subjectedto a flammablevapors ignition will show a
discoloration on the air intakegrid (bottomof combustion
chamber) andrequirereplacement of the entirewaterheater.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS

before lighting the pilot.
Turnthe gas controlltemperature knobcounterclockwise_"_
to the "OFF" setting.

Wait ten (10)minutes to clear out any gas.
If you then smell gas, STOP!Follow "B" in the safety
information above onthis label. If you do not smell gas,
go to the next step.

Turnthe gas control/temperatureknobclockwise
to "PILOT".

Press the gas control/temperature
knob all the way in
and hold it in. The knob should travel in about 1/4 inch
(6.35 mm) if it is set to "PILOT" correctly.
While holdinq the qas controlttemperature
knob in,
click the iqniter button continuouslv (about once a
second) for up to 90 seconds or until Status Liqht
beqins to blink.
When the status light starts blinking, releasethe gas
control/temperatureknob. Set the gas control/tempera-
ture knobto the desiredsetting.
If the status light does not start blinking within 90
seconds, repeat steps 2 through 5 up to THREE (3)
times, waiting 10 minutes between lighting attempts.
The circuitry in this advanced qas valve requires that
VOUwait 10 minutes between liqhtinq attempts.
If the status light turns solid red, release the gas
controlttemperature knob and repeat steps 2 through 5
(waiting 10 minutes before attempting to relight the pilot).
If the status light does not start blinking after three lighting
attempts, turn the gas controlttemperature knob to "OFF"
and call a qualified service technician or your gas supplier.
