for the IntraSwitch 5212 12 Port 10 BASE-T Switch
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for purchasing the Asanté 5212. This switch provides a great economical way
to provide a medium number of connections to end users or to segment a medium sized
network.
Documentation updates –
q
Please use the included IntraSwitch 5212 quick installation guide to install and access the
switch for first installation.
Note:
With software version 2.0 there is an included Web Server and VLAN addendum.
Please use this guide for questions regarding those features.
Additional Features –
The 5212 ships with runtime code version 2.0. This version of software supports some features
above and beyond those described in the IntraSwitch 5212 manual.
q
Software version 2.0 supports a built in HTTP server for web based management. Please
consult your manual addendum for specifications regarding the features and use of the HTTP
server.
Note: The HTTP server does not work with the Microsoft Java virtual machine for the
Macintosh. Please use the Apple version of the Java Machine which runs on Macintosh OS
8.0 or higher.
q
Software version 2.0 supports 4 port based VLANs. Please refer to the included manual
addendum for specifications regarding the features and use of port based VLANs.
q
The manual states that the 10/100TX port has a default setting of half duplex. With runtime
code version 1.3 or higher the default setting is to full auto-negotiation.
q
Under the "Console Management" section an additional value has been added. This is the
"Root Switch ID" and it is displayed in the header of the "Asanté IntraSwitch Spanning Tree
Parameter Menu" ( to display - type "s" from the configuration menu). This value allows you
to view the MAC address of the bridge that is acting as the root bridge in the Spanning Tree
network.
Caution –
q
The Spanning Tree Algorithm is applied only to the default VLAN 0 (zero). If you intend to
configure any VLANs beyond 0 (i.e. 1,2 or 3), please be sure to verify that there is no
potential loop condition in your network configuration. A loop condition will be created if you
connect any two ports residing in VLAN 1,2 or 3 to either a shared hub or a switch, which
does not support the Spanning Tree Algorithm.
q
The management agent supporting Telnet, Ping etc. can only be accessed through VLAN 0
(the default VLAN group.)
