To Use the Gate and External Arm

Example Procedure for Gate and External Arm

For demonstration purposes, you want to set up the Counter so that it
uses an external arm to start a measurement. You want to make a
Totalize measurement on the positive edges (that is, count the number of
positive edges) of a pulse-train signal applied to channel 1. Also, you want
to perform the measurement during an interval of 5 milliseconds as shown
in the following figure.
CHANNEL 1
Perform the following procedure to accomplish this task.

Turn on the Counter, and press Stop/Single to put the Counter into the
single measurement mode.

Connect the pulse-train signal to channel 1 input, and press Other Meas
key until TOTALIZE 1 is displayed.

Connect an external TTL signal to the Counter's rear-panel Ext Arm

connector.

Press Gate & ExtArm key.
GATE: TIME is displayed.

Press any one of the arrow keys until GATE: EXTERNL is displayed.

Press Gate & ExtArm key.
START: POS is displayed. (If START: NEG is displayed instead, then
press any one of the arrow keys to toggle to the next state— POS ).
