Checkthetransmissiongear oil after every 30 hoursof operation
or wheneveryou noticeanyoil leak. Operatingthe tiller whenthe
transmissionis lowon oil can resultin severedamage.
ToCheckthe Transmission GearOil Level:
1.
Checkthegear oil levelwhenthetransmissionis cool. Gearoil
will expandin warm operatingtemperatures and this expansion
will providean incorrectoil levelreading.
2.
With thetiller on levelground,pull the DepthRegulatorLeverall
the wayup
3.
Removetheoil fill plug from thetransmissionhousingand look
insidethe oil fill hole to locate themaindrive shaftsituatedbelow
the hole.See Figure25.

Thegear oil levelis correctif the gear oil is approximately halfway
up the side of the maindriveshaft.
5.
If thegear oil levelis low,add gearoil as describednext.If the
gear oil levelis okay,securelyreplacethe oil fill plug.

If addingonlya few ouncesof gear oil, useAPI ratedGb4 or
Gb5 gearoil havinga viscosityof SAE 140,SAE85%140 or SAE
80W-90.ifrefillingan emptytransmission, u seonly Gb4 gear oil
havinga viscosityof SAE 85W-140 or SAE 140.
7.
Whilecheckingfrequently to avoidoverfilling, slowlyadd gearoil into
theoilfill holeuntilit reaches thehalfway pointon thedriveshaft.

Securelyreplacetheoil fill plug.

Thetransmissiongear oil does not needto be changedunlessit has
been contaminated with dirt, sandor metalparticles.See an autho-
rizedSearsServiceCenterto havethetransmissiongear oil changed
or to scheduleservice,simplycontactSearsat 1-800-4-MY-HOME®.
LUBRICATION
After every 10operatinghours,oil or greasethe lubricationpoints.Use
clean lubricating oil (#30 weight motoroil is suitable)and cleangeneral
purposegrease(greasecontaininga metal lubricantis preferred,if
available).See Figure26.

Removethe wheels,cleanthe wheelshaftand applya thin
coatingof grease.
Greasethe back,front and sides of the depthregulatorlever.
Removethe tines and cleanthefine shaft. Use a fileor sandpa-
perto gentlyremoveany rust,burrsor rough spots(especially
aroundthe holesin the shaft).Applygreaseto the endsof the
shaftbeforeinstallingthetines.
Oil thethreadson the handlebarheightadjustmentscrewsand
the handlebarattachingscrews.
TIRE PRESSURE
Checkthe air pressurein both tires.Theair pressureshouldbe
between15-20PSI. Keepbothtires equallyinflatedto help prevent
machinefrom pullingto one side.
HARDWARE
Checkfor looseor missinghardwareafter every 10 operatinghours
and tightenor replace= as needed= beforereusingthe tiller. Be
sureto checkthe screwsunderneaththe tiller hoodthat securethe
transmissioncoverand the DepthRegulatorLeverto the transmission.
