unintendedstarting.

mowerwithout the dischargecoverin the proper operating positioncould
result in seriouspersonalinjury and/or property damage.
Attaching the Battery Cables
NOTE: Thepositivebatteryterminalismarked Pos. ( +). Thenegative battery
terminalismarked aeg.(-).
Thepositivecable(heavyredwire)issecured to the positivebatteryterminal(+)
with a hexbolt andhexnut at the factory.
Thenegativecable(heavyblack wire)maybesecured to the negativebattery
terminalat the factory.Ifit hasn'tbeenattached, p roceed asfollows:
1.
Remove t hecarriageboltandhexnut fromthe positivecable(heavyred
wire).
Remove t he redplastic cover, i fpresent, f rom the positivebatteryterminal
andattachthe positivecableto the positivebatteryterminal(+) with the
boltandhexnut.SeeFigure 2.
Shipping B raceRemoval
Makesurethe lawn mower'sengine is off. Remove the ignition keybefore
removing t he shipping brace.
Locate theshippingbrace, i f present, f oundonthe rightsideof thecutting
deck.SeeFigure 1.

Whileholding the discharge c hutewith yourleft hand,remove the shipping
brace with yourrighthandbygrasping it betweenyourthumbandindex
fingerandrotatingit clockwise.

Remove t hecarriageboltandhexnut fromthe negativecable(heavy black
wire).

Remove t he blackplastic cover, i fpresent, f rom the negativebattery
terminalandattachthe negative cableto the negative batteryterminal(-)
with the bolt andhexnut. See Figure 2.

Makecertainthe hold-downrodis inpositionoverthe battery,securing it in
place andmakecertainthat the redrubberbootcovers the positivebattery
terminalto helpprotectit fromcorrosion.
NOTE: I fthe batteryisput into service afterthe dateshownontop/sideof battery,
chargethe batteryasinstructed inthe Maintenance s ectionofthis manual p riorto
operatingthe mower.
Theshipping braceisusedfor packagingpurposesonly. Remove and
discardthe shipping bracebefore operatingyourlawn mower.
