Changing of engine-governed s peed will voidengine warranty.
All adjustments shouNbe checked a t leastonceeachseason.
Periodkally check all fasteners andmakesurethesearetight.
EngineMaintenance
Checking the Engine Oil
Check oil levelregularly.
Besurecorrect o il levelismaintained. C heck everyfiveto ten hoursbefore
startingengine.
NOTE: Besuretocheck the oil whileon alevelsurface with the enginestopped.
I.
Remove t he oil filler cap/dipstkkandwipethe dipstickclean.
2.
Insertthe dipstickinto the oil filler neck.Turnthe dipsticka I/4 turn into the
lockedpositionto fullyseat.
3.
Remove d ipstickto check the oil level.
4.
If the levelislow,slowlyaddoil to the upperlimit onthe dipstick.
5.
Reinsert t he dipstickandturn to locked positionbeforestartingthe engine.
Donot overfill. Overfillingwith oii maymakethe engine hardto start, or
not to start. If overthe upper limit on the dipstick, drain oil levelto upper
limit on dipstick.
Draining the Engine Oil
If the engine hasbeenrecently run,the engine,muffler andsurrounding
metal surfaces will be hot and cancauseburnsto the skin. Exercise caution
to avoid burns.
IMPORTAN# B esuremowerisona levelsurface withthe enginestopped.Drain the
oil whilethe engineisstill warmto assure rapidandcomplete draining.

Remove a ll fuel fromtank byrunningengineuntil it stopsfrom lackof fuel.
2.
Remove d rainplugandallowoil todraininto asuitablecontainer. S eeFigure
13.
3.
Reinstall the drainplugandtightenit securely, 1 2-14 Nm(106.2-123.9 in-lb).
ReplaceOil Filter
Thisengineisequipped with aspin-onoil filter that shouldbe replaced e achtime
anoil changeisperformed, e veryseason or 50hours.Referto Figure 14.

Drain oil. Seeoil drainsection.

Remove o il filter. Dispose o f oldoil filter properly.
3.
Lube gasket o f newoil filter with cleanoil.
4.
Installandturn oil filter byhanduntilthe gasket c omesincontactwiththe
sealingsurface of the crankcase cover, t hentightenthe oil filter, 10-12Nm
(88.5-106.2 in-lb),1/2-3/4turn.
5.
Addoil. Seeaddoil sectionon nextpage.
6.
Makesuredipstickisinstalled.
7.
Startandrunengine.Check f or leaks.
8.
Stopengine.Waitafew minutes andcheck the oil level. See checking oil
levelsection.
9.
Installandtighten dipstick.
