Check Engine Oil
Check o il levelbeforeeachoperation. B esureoil levelismaintained.
1.
Check t he oil withthe enginestoppedandlevel.
2.
Remove t he oil fill dipstickandwipeit clean.
3.
Insertandtightendipstick.Remove i t to check the oil level.
4.
If the oil levelis nearor belowthe lowerlimit markonthe dipstick,remove
the oil filler cap/dipstick, a ndfill with the recommended o il to the upper
limit mark.Donot overfill.
5.
Reinstall the oil fill dipstick.
ChangeEngineOil
Gasolineand its vaporsare extremely flammable andexplosive.Fireor
explosioncancausesevereburnsor death.
Change engine oilafter thefirstfivehours ofoperation, and every fifty hours or
once aseason thereafter.
Whenyou drain the oil from the top oil fill tube, the fuel tank must be
empty or fuel canleak out andresult in afire or explosion.Toempty the
fuel tank, runthe engine until it stopsfrom lackof fuel.

Withengineoff but still warm,disconnect the sparkplugwire andkeepit
awayfromthe sparkplug.
2.
Place asuitablecontainer n ext to theengineto catchthe usedoil.
3.
Remove t he oil fill dipstickanddrainthe oil into the container b ytippingthe
enginetowardthe oil filler neck.SeeFigure 19.
Used oil is a hazardous waste product. Dispose o f usedoil properly. Donot
discardwith householdwaste. Checkwith your localauthorities or Sears
ServiceCenterfor safe disposal/recyclingfacilities.
4.
Withthe enginein alevelposition,fill to the upperlimit markonthe dipstick
with the recommended o il.

Engine partsshouldbekeptcleanto reduce the riskof overheating a nd
ignition ofaccumulated debris.
Donotusewater to cleanengine parts. Watercould contaminatefuel
system.Use abrush or dry cloth.
LUBRICATION
Blade Control
Lubricate pivotpointson the bladeanddrivecontrol a t leastoncea season w ith
light oil.These controls mustoperate freelyinbothdirections. S eeFigure 20.
Belt Care
NOTE: Several components m ustberemoved inorderto change the mower's
self-propulsion drivebelt. See anauthorizedSears Service C enter t o haveyourbelt
replaced.
