CHANGING
THE DECK ENGAGEMENT
BELT
Shutthe engineoff and removeignitionkey beforeremovingthe
cutting blade(s)for sharpeningor replacement. P rotectyourhandsb
usingheavygloveswhengraspingbladesand pulleys.
The V-beltsfoundon yourmowerare speciallydesignedto engageand
disengagesafely.A substitute (non-OEM)V-beltcanbe dangerousby
notdisengaging completely. Fora properworkingmachine, u seidenti-
cal replacement beltsas listedin partslist of thisoperator'smanual.
All belts on your mowerare subjectto wearand shouldbe replacedif
anysigns of wearare present. To changeor replacethe deck engage-
ment belton your mower,proceedasfollows:
1.
Removethecuttingdeck from the moweras instructed earlier in
this section.
Avoid pinchinginjuries.Neverplaceyourfingers on the idler springor
betweenthe belt and a pulleywhile removingthebelt
2.
Removethebelt coveras instructedearlier in this section.Refer
to Figure19on page 22.
3.
Removethebelt keeperas instructedearlierin this section.Refer
to Figure23 on page 24.
4.
Loosen,butnot remove,the nutand bolt which secureseach
deck idler pulley.See Figure29.

Several c omponentsmustbe removed and specialtools usedin
order to changethe mowerdeck'stimingbelt. See yourSearsor
otherqualifiedservicedealer to havethe deck timing belt replaced.

FUSE
Beforeservicing,repairing,or inspecting, a lwaysdisengageblades,
stop engineand removekey to preventunintendedstarting.
A 20 Ampfuse is installedin your mower'swiringharnessto protect
the mower'selectricalsystemfrom damagecausedby excessive
amperage.
If the electricalsystemdoes notfunction,or yourmower'senginewill
notcrank,first checkto be certainthat the fuse has not blown.It is
locatednear the battery.
Alwaysuse a replacement f use with the same amperagecapacityas
the blownfuse.
