Confirm notification when an event occurs
After setting up the ETERNUS2000 and the server environment, sending trap from the
ETERNUS2000 (SNMP Agent) to the server (SNMP Manager) can be confirmed by executing the
SNMP trap sending test.
For details about the SNMP trap sending test, refer to "SNMP Trap Test" in the "ETERNUS2000
ETERNUSmgr User Guide -Settings/Maintenance-".

When executing SNMP trap sending test, confirm that the SNMP notification (Item fault) is dis-
played. The Item fault message (hardware failure report) displayed by this sending test does not
show actual failure.
If confirmation fails, there may be a network problem, or an ETERNUS2000 setup error. Check
the following items.
• Is the LAN between ServerView management device and ETERNUS2000 connected
• Is ServerView set correctly to monitor the ETERNUS2000?
• Is the notification receiver of ETERNUS2000's SNMP trap set correctly?

correctly?
Run "ping" command from MS-DOS prompt, confirm reply from ETERNUS2000.
> ping IP address of ETERNUS2000
(Example)
> ping 192.168.1.180
If the following messages are output, the LAN is connected correctly.
Pinging 192.168.1.180 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.180: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=252
Reply from 192.168.1.180: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=252
Reply from 192.168.1.180: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=252
Reply from 192.168.1.180: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=252
If the above messages are not displayed, check LAN related items such as LAN cable (twist
pair cable compatible with Category 5), network environment settings of ETERNUS2000, and
LAN card setup of management device.
Start setting/maintenance program and check if management device's IP address is set cor-
rectly in the [Set SNMP Agent Environment] screen.
