install the Mt#2 dead center into the
tailstock.

Attach a lathe dog on the spindle end of
the bar stock from Step 2, then mount
the workpiece between the centers (see
figure 30 for an example).

turn approximately 0.010" off the diameter of
the entire length of the workpiece.

Mount a test or dial indicator so that the
plunger is on the tailstock quill.
Note: If necessary in the following step,
refer to Offsetting Tailstock on Page 27 for
adjusting the tailstock position.
