1. Slide FUNCTION switch to RADIO.
• The Power "ON" indicator will light.
2. Set BAND Switch to desired broadcast band -
AM or FM.
3. Use TUNING knob to select a station.
4. Adjust VOLUME control to your listening
preference.
5. To tum the radio off, slide FUNCTION switch to
TAPE (Radio Off).
When tuned to FM, stations broadcastingin stereo
will be heard in stereo and those broadcasting in
mona will be heard in mona.
AM Antenna - The AM antenna, built into the unit,
is somewhat directional. On weak station•, it may
be necessary to rotate the unit for best reception.
(The whip antenna is not used for AM reception.)
FM Antenna - Liftand extend the telescoping whip
antenna. It may be necessary to adjust the length.
and directionof the antenna for best FM reception.
NOTE: Toavoiddamagingthe whipantenna,always
lower the antenna one section at a time, starting
with the largestdiametersection. Do not push down
fromthe top ofthe antennasincebucklingor bending
is possible.
The Automatic Frequency Control works only on
FM. It helps to keep the radio locked on the station
to which it is tuned.
When tuningin stations, you may notice that often
the FM station you desire can be heard on two or
three nearbypointson the dial. Alwaystune carefully
to the loudest and clearest point.
The Headphone Jack on the front of the unit is for
optional stereo headphones, such as Cat. No. 3-
5750. Use of the headphone•
permit• private
listening(monitoring) of material during PLAY and
RECORD operations.

The stereo sound of a radio program,tape cassette
or compact disc can be made to expand spatially
so that it takes on the feel of a live performance.
Press the SURROUND buttonto switchSURROUND
"ON'.
PressSURROUND button againto retumto ordinary
sound.

When operating your unit at a low-volume level,
scme ofthe bc_sfrequencies may not be discernible.
To give a boost to these frequencies and enhance
your low volumelisteningenjoyment, bass amplifier
circuit has been added to your unit.
When listening to music or whenever maximum
audio fidelity is desired, press the BASS BOOST
button to switch BASS BOOST "ON" to bring out
the bass frequencies.
INSERTING A DISC
1. Slide FUNCTION switch to DISC position.
• POWER INDICATOR lights.
2. PRESS the "OPEN" button to open the Disc
CompartmenL
• A flashing "cd" will appear in the DISPLAY.
3. Without touching the disc surface, place the
disc in the compartment wIth the label facing
up.
4. To close the Disc Compartment door, press
down on door until door latches.
CAUTION: To avoid damage to the disc or disc
mechanism, be sure disc is properly seated in the
disc tray before closing disc door.
NOTE: Both 3" and 5" discs with the identification
logo shown below can be played in this player.
