TO ENGAGE
DRIVE & TINES
Do not pushdownon the handlebarsto try to makethe tillertill more
deeply.This preventsthe wheelsfrom holdingthetiller backand can
allowthe tinesto rapidlypropelthetiller, whichcould resultin lossof
control,propertydamage,or personalinjury.
To moveforward:
1.
Forforward motionof thewheels usethe gear selectionhandle
and for powertothe tines pull the clutchcontrolup against the
handlebar.
2.
Whentilling, letthe wheelspull the machinewhile thetines dig.
Walk slowlybehindthe tillerallowingit to moveat its ownpace
whilekeepinga securegrip on the handlebarwith yourelbows
flexed.
3.
Releasethe bailto stopthe wheelsand tines.
To movein reverse:(Do not till in reverse)
1.
Releasethe ClutchControl.Then lift the handlebaruntilthe tines
are off the ground.
2.
Pull back on the gear selectionhandle,and walk backwardswith
the machine.
NOTE: In reversemode,the tines will reverserotation.
TURNING
THE TILLER
1.
Practiceturningthetiller in a level,open area.Be very carefulto
keepyourfeet and legs awayfromthe tines.
2.
To begina turn, lift the handlebarsuntilthe tines are out of the
groundand the engineand tines are balancedoverthe wheels.
3.
With the tillerbalanced,pushsideways on the handlebarto steer
in the directionof the turn. After turning,slowlylowerthe tines into
the soil to resumetilling.
SETTING
THE DEPTH
Tillingdepthis controlledbythe depthstakewhichcan be adjustedto
five differentsettings.Adjust the sideshieldsas you adjustthe depth
stake.
Whenusingthe tillerfor the firsttime, usethe secondadjustment
hole from thetop (1"of tillingdepth).
Whenbreakingup sodand for shallowcultivation,usethe setting
which gives 1"of tillingdepth (secondholefrom the top). Place
the sideshields in their lowestposition.
Forfurther depth, raisethe depthstakeand side shieldsand also
makeone or two morepassesoverthearea.
Whentillingloosesoil, the depthstakemay be raisedto its
highestposition(use bottomadjustmenthole)to givethe deepest
tillingdepth. Raisethe sideshieldsto their highestposition.
Totransporttiller, lowerthedepth stake(use topadjustment
hole).
Toadjust thedepth stake,removethe clevispin and cotterpin. Move
the depthstaketo the desiredsettingand securewith the clevispin
and cotter pin.See Figure14.

to the desiredpositionand replacethe wingnuts.Tightensecurely.

The handleshouldbe adjustedsothat whenthe tiller is digging3-4"
into the soil, thehandlefalls to aboutwaste-high.Referto the As-
semblysectionof this manualfor instructionson adjustingthe handle.
