Engineoil levelcan be checkedand oil addedthroughtheoil fill. See
Figure10.
NOTE:This unitwas shippedWITHOUToil inthe engine.Oil is
included in the plasticbag packedwith the manualin with the unit.
Add theoil as directedin theGas & Oil Fill Up section.Checkthe oil
levelbeforeeachoperationto ensureadequateoil is inthe engine.

FORWARD
TINE ENGAGEMENT
LEVER
Theforwardtine engagement l evercontrolsthe engagement o f the
tines.Releasethe leverto stop the tines.See Figure10.

HEIGHT
ADJUSTMENT
Thehandle heightmaybe adjusted.Loosenthe knobto changethe
position.Tightenhardwarewhencomplete.See Figure10.
TO START ENGINE
1.
Attachsparkplug wireand rubberbootto spark plug.
2.
Fill tankto no morethan 1/2" belowbottomof filler neckto provide
spacefor fuelexpansion.
3.
Makesurethe fine clutchcontrolisdisengaged.
4.
Movethe chokeleveron the engineto CHOKEI'_1 position.(A
warmenginemay not requirechoking.)See Figure11.

Standingon the sideof the unit, graspstarterhandleand pull
ropeout untilyou feela drag.

Pullthe ropewith a rapid,continuous, f ull arm stroke.Keepa firm
grip on the starterhandle.Letthe rope rewindslowly.

Repeat,if necessary,untilengine starts.Whenengine starts,
movechoke controlgraduallytowardthe RUNI _'I position..

If enginefalters, movechoke controlbacktowardthe CHOKE
I'_1 positionand repeatsteps5 though8.
10. ALWAYS keepthe throttlecontrolin theSTART/RUN (Rabbit)
positionwhenoperatingthe tiller.
TO STOP ENGINE
1.
To stopthe wheelsand tines, releasethe ForwardClutchBail.
2.
Movethrottlecontrol leverto slow(turtle) _
position.
Wheneverpossible,graduallyreduceengine speedbefore
stoppingengine.
3.
Movethrottlecontrol leverto STOP
or OFFposition.
4.
Disconnectspark plugwireand groundit against t heengineto
preventaccidentalstartingwhilethe equipmentis unattended.
TO ENGAGE
DRIVE & TINES
1.
Forforwardmotionof the wheelsand powerto the tines pull the
ForwardClutchBail up againstthe handlebar.
2.
Whentilling,relaxandletthewheelspullthemachine whilethetines
dig.Walkslowlybehind thetillerallowingitto moveat itsownpace
whilekeepinga securegripon thehandlebar w ithyourelbowsflexed.
3.
Releasethe bail to stop theforward motionof wheelsand tines.
TURNING
THE TILLER
1.
Practiceturningthe tiller in a level,open area.Be very carefulto
keepyourfeet and legsawayfrom thetines.
2.
To begina turn, lift the handlebarsuntilthetines are outof the
groundand the engineand tines are balancedoverthe wheels.
3.
With the tillerbalanced,pushsidewayson the handlebarto steer
in the directionof theturn. After turning,slowlylowerthe tines into
the soil to resumetilling.
SETTING
THE DEPTH
Be certain spark plugwire is disconnected and groundedagainstthe
enginewhenperforminganyadjustments.
Yoke Forward
Attachthe wheelyokeso that the wheelsare forward(nearestto tines)
for shallowtilling,cultivatingand transportby removingtheclevis pin
