• Neverfill containersinside a vehicle,on
a truck or trailerbed with a plastic liner.
Alwaysplace containerson the ground
awayfrom your vehiclebeforefilling.
• Removegas-poweredequipmentfrom
the truck or trailer and refuel it on the
ground. If this is not possible,then
refuel such equipmentwith a portable
container,ratherthan from a gasoline
dispensernozzle.
• Keepthe nozzle in contact with the rim
of the fuel tank or containeropening at
all times until fueling is complete. Do
not use a nozzle lock-opendevice.
• If fuel is spilled on clothing,change
clothing immediately.
• Neveroverfillfuel tank. Replacegas
cap and tightensecurely.
V. GENERAL SERVICE
• Neverrun a machine inside a closed
area.
• Nevermake adjustmentsor repairs with
the engine (motor) running.Disconnect
the spark plug wire, and keepthe wire
awayfrom the plug to preventaccidental
starting.
• Keepnuts and bolts, especiallyblade
attachmentbolts, tight and keepequip-
ment in good condition.
• Nevertamper with safetydevices.Check
their proper operationregularly.
• Keepmachinefree of grass, leaves,or
other debris build-up.Clean oil or fuel
spillage.Allow machineto cool before
storing.
• Stop and inspectthe equipmentif you
strike an object.Repair, if necessary,
beforerestarting.
• Neverattemptto make wheel height
adjustmentswhile the engine is running.
• Grasscatchercomponentsare subject
to wear, damage,and deterioration,
which could expose moving parts or
allow objectsto be thrown.Frequently
check componentsand replacewith
manufacturer'srecommendedparts,
when necessary.
• Mowerbladesare sharp and can cut.
Wrap the blade(s)or wear gloves,and
use extra caution when servicingthem.
• Do not change the enginegovernorset-
ting or overspeedthe engine.
• Maintainor replacesafety and instruc-
tion labels, as necessary.
AWARNING: This lawn mower is equipped with an internal combustion engine and
should not be used on or near any unimproved forest-covered, brush-covered or
grass-covered land unless the engine's exhaust system is equipped with a spark
arrester meeting applicable local or state laws (if any). If a spark arrester is used, it
should be maintained in effective working order by the operator.
In the state of California the above is required by law (Section 4442 of the California
Public Resources Code). Other states may have similar laws. Federal laws apply on
federal lands. A spark arrester for the muffler is available through your nearest Sears
Parts & Repair Center (See the REPAIR PARTS section of this manual).
