GENERAL
Avoid using solventswhen cleaning ptastic parts. Most
plasticsare susceptibleto damage from vedous types of
commercial solventsand may be damaged by their use.
Use clean clothsto remove dirt, carbon dust, etc.

gasoline,petroleum-based products, penetrating
oils. etc. come in contact wRh plasticparts. Chemi-
cals can damage, weaken or destroyplastic which
may resuRin seriouspersonal injury.
It has been found that elecb'ictools aresubjectto ac-
celerated wear and possiblepremature failurewhen they
are used on fiberglassboats, sports cars, wallboard,
spacklingcompounds, or piaster.The chips and gdndings
from these materials are highlyabrasiveto electric tool
parts such as bearfngs,brushes, commutators,etc. Con-
sequently,it is not recommended that this tool be used
for extended work on any fiberglass material,wallboard,
specklingcompounds, or piaster. Duringany use on these
matedais it [s extrsmely importantthat the tool is cleaned
frequentlyby blowingwith an air jet.
LUBRICATION
All of the bearingsIn this tool are lubricatedwith a suffi-
cient amount ot high grade lubricantfor the life of the unit
under normal operating conditions.Therefore, no further
lubricationIs required.

repairs -- with the exception of the externally acces-
sibrebrushes -- should be performed by a qualified
service technicianat a Sears store to avoid risk of

BRUSH
REPLACEMENT
See Figure 47,
Yoursaw has externally accessible brush assembliesthat
should be periodicallychecked for wear.
Proceed as follow,, when replacement is required:
• Unplug the saw,

WARN|NG: Falturato un_iug the saw could resultin
accidentalstarting causing seriousinjury.
• Remove brush cap with a screwdriver.Brush assembly
Is springloaded and will pop out when you remove
brush cap.
• Remove brush assembly.
Check for wear. Replaceboth brusheswhen either has
less than 1/4 in. _engthof ca,,bonremaining.Do not
replace one side without replacingthe other,
• Reassembleusing new brushassemblies. Make sure
curvatureof brush m_tchas curvature of motor and
that brush moves freely in brushtube.
Make sure brush cap is odented correctly (straight} and
repLace.
• "13ghten b rush cap sscursly.Do not overtighten.
