MAINTENANCE
BELTADJUSTMENT
TractionDrive Belt
Thetractiondrivebelthasconstant s pringpressure anddoesnotrequire
anadjustment. I f thetractiondrivebelt is slipping,replace thebelt. Seeau-
thorized dealer.
Auger Drive Belt
If yoursnowthrower will notdischarge s now, c heck thecontrol c ableadjust-
ment.If it iscorrect, t hencheck thecondition oftheauger drivebelt.If it is
damaged o r loose, r eplace it (see authorized dealer).
Auger Drive BeltAdjustment:
1. Disconnect sparkplug wire.
2. Remove s crew (A,Figure 32)frombeltcover (B).Remove b eltcover.
3. Loosennuton idler drivepulley(A,Figure 33)andmoveidlerdrive
pulleytowardsbeltabout1/8inch(3 mm).
WARNING: Do not over-tighten, as this may lift the
lever and causethe auger drive to be engagedwithout
depressingthe auger control.
4. Tighten nut.
5. Withtheaid of anassistant, e ngage theaugerdriveclutch.Check ten-
sionon beltwhichis oppositeidler pulley(B,Figure33).Beltshould
deflectabout1/2 inch(12.5mm)with moderate pressure. Youmay
haveto moveidler pulleymorethanonceto obtainthecorrectten-
sion.
6. Reinstall b eltcover(B, Figure32).Tighten screw(A).
7. Attachthesparkplugwire.
NOTE: Whenever beltsareadjusted or replaced, thecables will needto be
adjusted (see"CheckandAdjusttheCables"section).
CheckAugerDriveBelt:
1. Release theauger controllever. T heaugermuststopwithin5 sec-
onds.
2. If augerdoesnotoperateproperly, s topengineandrepeat " Auger
DriveBeltAdjustment."
