Start point: Turn the TV set on and select the
video programme number.
Insert a cassette.
Note: Be sure to check that the safety tab is not
missing. If it is removed, the VCR is set to the
playback mode automatically.
If you insert a blank cassette (or a cassette
recorded without Tape Navigation data), the TAPE
NAVIGATION button on the VCR will flash and
" " will flash in the VCR display for about 10
seconds.
• If you are using an E-30, E-60, E-120 or E-180
cassette, ignore this display.
• If you are using an E-240, E-260 or E-300
cassette, press the 0000 button until the type of
tape you use appears in the VCR display. Refer
to "Tape Navigation Function" on page 39.
• While the TAPE NAVIGATION button is flashing,
recording cannot be done even if the REC
button is pressed.
Select the programme to be recorded by pressing
the PROG / buttons or two number buttons.

Note:
If the selected programme have PDC signal, the
"PDC" character will appear on the TV screen.

Press the DISP button.
The on-screen display will appear on the TV
screen.

Press the SP/LP button to select the recording
speed.
Press the REC button.
Now recording will start and the REC indicator on
the VCR will light.
Notes:
• When a cassette without safety tab is inserted,

" " will flash in the VCR display for several
seconds, and the cassette will be ejected
automatically.
• If you press the REC button without a cassette
inserted, "
warn you.
If you want to avoid recording unwanted material,
press the PAUSE 8 button. Press the button again
to continue recording.
To prevent tape damage, the VCR will
automatically switch from record/pause to the stop
mode after about 5 minutes.
