Print Problems
Symptom
Paper contamination
Spur tracks appear
Vertically-oriented
printed lines are
misaligned.
Corrugated printing
The printout is either
light or dark.
Check Item
Ink mist on the platen.
Ink has clogged around the
head's nozzles. (No paper
contamination during paper
feeding and discharging.)
Ink has clogged (or paper bits
have stuck) around the purge
unit's head wiper or head
capping area.
Ink has adhered to the paper
transport system. (The paper
is already contaminated by
the time it reaches the platen.)
Ink has adhered to the spurs.
The spurs have deformed.
The BJ cartridge is installed
incorrectly.
The paper thickness lever is
not set properly.
The problem occurs when the
user's BJ cartridge (causing
the problem) is installed in a
normally-operating printer.
The carriage guide frame is
deformed.
Frictional wear between the
carriage base and carriage
shaft.
Check the printing mode.
The BJ cartridge is faulty.

Part 5: Maintenance
Measures
Use a soft cloth moistened
with water to clean.
Clean a few times. If problem
persists, replace the BJ
cartridge.
Replace the purge unit.
Disassemble the paper
transport system and use a
soft moist cloth to clean.
Use a soft toothbrush to
clean.
Replace the paper feed unit.
Reinstall the BJ cartridge
correctly.
Set the lever at the specified
position.
Replace the BJ cartridge.
Replace the printer frame unit.
Replace the carriage unit.
Set the desired printing mode.
Replace the BJ cartridge.
