Adding and Removing
Drives
The HP Pavilion has seven drive bays to
accommodate a variety of devices, such as
CD-ROM, DVD, CD-Writer, Zip, tape, diskette,
and hard drives. The specific devices installed on
your system vary according to which model you
purchased.
Note that the motherboard IDE can support four
devices. To use additional bays, you need to
purchase an add-in card.

Adding a New Drive

The HP Pavilion has empty 3.5-inch and/or
5.25-inch drive bays in which you can install
additional IDE devices (such as a Zip or a tape
drive).
1 Turn off the computer and all peripherals.
2 Disconnect the modem/phone cable.
3 Disconnect the power cord and all other
attached cables (such as the keyboard, mouse,
and monitor).
4 Remove the front cover (see "Removing the
Front Cover" on page 4).
5 Remove the bay insert by pulling the right side
of the insert (B) toward you.
