Configuring the Maximum-Aging Time

To configure the maximum-aging time for all MST instances, perform this task:

Router# configure terminal

Router(config)# spanning-tree mst max-age seconds
Step 3
Router(config)# end
Step 4
Router# show spanning-tree mst
Step 5
Router# copy running-config startup-config
To return the router to its default setting, use the no spanning-tree mst max-age global configuration
command.

Configuring the Maximum-Hop Count

To configure the maximum-hop count for all MST instances, perform this task:

Configuring Standard-Compliant IEEE MST
Purpose
Enters global configuration mode.
(Optional) Configures the maximum-aging time for all
MST instances. The maximum-aging time is the number
of seconds a router waits without receiving spanning-tree
configuration messages before attempting a
reconfiguration.
For seconds, the range is 6 to 40; the default is 20.
Returns to privileged EXEC mode.
Verifies your entries.
(Optional) Saves your entries in the configuration file.
Purpose
Enters global configuration mode.
(Optional) Specifies the number of hops in a region
before the BPDU is discarded, and the information held
for a port is aged.
For hop_count, the range is 1 to 255; the default is 20.
Returns to privileged EXEC mode.
Verifies your entries.
(Optional) Saves your entries in the configuration file.
