7. Insert the SDRAM DIMM carefully into the desired slot. The retaining
clips will grasp the SDRAM DIMM automatically if it is inserted
properly.
CAUTION
Do not rock the SDRAM DIMM into place, but apply firm
and even pressure (significantly more than you would when
installing SIMMs). If a gap exists between the retaining clips
and the SDRAM DIMM module, remove the module and
repeat steps 5-7.
8. Repeat steps 3-7 to install SDRAM DIMMs in the DIMM slot sequence
listed in Figure 2-2 and Figure 2-3 until you have installed all SDRAM
DIMMs for you memory configuration.

Removing a 128 MB SDRAM DIMM Module

You may need to remove a 128 MB SDRAM DIMM module to downsize your
memory configuration or to replace a defective DIMM. Always downsize memory
to the next lower memory configuration listed in Figure 2-2 or Figure 2-3.
Memory modules are installed in specific DIMM slots for each memory
configuration. You must remove SDRAM DIMMs so that the remaining memory
is installed in the correct DIMM slots.
Follow these steps to remove 128 MB SDRAM DIMMs from the 4 GB memory
board:
1. Power down the satellite chassis. (See Power Down Procedure earlier in
this chapter.)
2. Remove the lower fan module and rear access panel. (See Accessing the
Lower Board Cage earlier in this chapter.)
3. Remove the memory board. Lay the memory board, component side up, on
a firm anti-static surface.
4. Note the number of SDRAM DIMMs installed and their slot numbers.
Find the downsized memory configuration in Figure 2-2 and Figure 2-3
and note the number and slot locations for that configuration.
5. Open the retaining clips just enough so that you can lift the top edge of
the DIMM away from the clips.
6. Lift the DIMM completely away from the socket.
