When the status of a boot device changes, an event is generated. See

Replacing a dedicated boot device

If a boot hard drive fails, you will see an event that the boot device is faulty. Replace it with a new
drive. The boot device drives support hot swapping and do not require activation.
Description
The device is synchronized and ready to be used.
The device is ready to be removed from the storage system. It will not be
used to boot the storage system.
The device encountered an I/O error and is not ready to be used.
The device has not yet been used in a storage system. It is ready to be activ-
ated.
The device is not recognized as a boot device.
The device cannot be used. (For example, the compact flash card is the
wrong size or type.)
