    Introduction This software technical reference (STR) provides information about and troubleshooting tips for the printing-system software for the product. This STR is prepared in an electronic format to serve as a quick-reference tool for Customer Care Center (CCC) agents, support engineers, system administrators, management information systems (MIS) personnel, and end users, as appropriate.

    Printing-system software on the Web All software that is contained on the installation CDs is also available on the Web. Web deployment is the preferred method for obtaining the latest software. The HP Web site offers an option for automatic e-mail notification about new software releases. NOTE: This STR describes drivers that are shipped on the printing-system software CD that comes with the product.

Install the printing-system software on any computer that has access rights to the product.

    NOTE: If you are connecting the product to a network, connect the network cable to the network port. If you are connecting the product to a computer by using the USB cable, connect the USB cable. Insert the printing-system software CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the HP LaserJet installer browser screen does not open automatically when the CD is inserted into the CD-ROM drive, double-click the product CD image on the desktop to open the installer browser screen.

The process for updating firmware involves three steps: Determine the current level of firmware that is installed on the product. Obtain the Firmware Update Utility from the HP Web site. Run the Firmware Update Utility to update the new firmware on the product.
