6 Maintenance Processes

Introduction

FCArray Assistant Client maintenance processes include the activities listed
below. These activities may be required occasionally to maintain arrays that use
redundancy and/or fault tolerance, or to maintain the most up-to-date firmware
maintenance releases:
Running a consistency check on a logical drive to examine (and optionally
restore) consistency (parity).
Encountered errors may be written to the Error Table.
Running a data rebuild on a physical drive to replace a drive that went dead
or offline.
Upgrading disk array controller firmware.
Performing a safe shutdown of the system.

Running a Logical Drive Consistency Check

You should periodically run a consistency check on each of your fault tolerant
logical drives. This check scans the logical drive to determine if the consistency
data has become corrupted and needs to be restored. If you have reason to believe
that logical drive consistency data is corrupted, or if you wish to run a consistency
check for maintenance reasons, perform the following procedure:
1. On screen, select Controller View.. under the View menu. See Figure 6-1.
You may also double-click any server icon in the Global Status View to
open the Controller View window.
