Glossary
Bluetooth A technology that lets your phone communicate with other electronic devices without
using wires.
block cursor A box that indicates the current highlighted character in a text message. After two
seconds, the block cursor reverts to a flashing cursor and moves to the next position. See also: flashing
cursor .
browser See: micro-browser .

call back number A phone number in a text message, provided by the sender.
call drop tone Produces an audible tone if the network drops a call (optional feature available on
some phones).
call forward The feature that lets you forward your calls to another phone number, and assign a
different number to different types of calls—voice, fax, or data.
call waiting A feature that lets you answer a call if it arrives while you are already on a call. With call
waiting, you can put the first call on hold while you take the second one.
caller ID A network/subscription dependent service that allows you to view information on incoming
calls before answering. Not available in all areas.
call timer One of the timers on your phone that tracks network connection time .
calling line identification (CLI) see Caller ID.
CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) CDMA takes digitized voice and encodes it in a unique
scheme that is sent out over the air. CDMA digital reduces the probability of dropped calls. Your phone
is equipped to handle CDMA digital voice transmission.
channel A folder that holds browser service information.
choice card Browser information delivered to your phone in list form.
cleanup (message center) The feature that automatically deletes messages that are read and
unlocked (runs at midnight). You can specify how many days your phone waits or how many messages
are kept before your phone runs cleanup (you can also run clean up manually).
code (interactive services) You can enter an interactive service's code as a shortcut to opening the
service.
cold transfer Sends an active call directly to another phone, without giving you the chance to speak
to the person on the target phone.
conference call A digital feature that lets you link several calls so that everyone can participate in a
single conversation. For analog systems, see: three-way call .
cost tracker A feature that can calculate and display the cost of your calls (current or cumulative). It
can also subtract the cost from a pre-established credit limit.
