Glossary
soft keys The two unmarked keys at the top of your keypad. Labels in the lower corners of the display
identify the function performed by each soft key. These functions vary depending on your location in the
menu system.
speakerphone An external microphone and speaker for your phone. This lets you use your phone
without holding it to your ear. It is for use in situations where you need both hands free, like driving.
special characters Can be included in a telephone number. They tell your phone to wait or prompt
you to enter digits before it dials the next digit in the number. They include pause, wait, and 'n'
speed number The number for a phonebook entry's location in the phonebook. Your phonebook's
locations are numbered from 01-99. You can use the speed number to dial the entry. See: speed dial ,
memory location .
speed dial Lets you call any phonebook entry just by entering the one-, two-, or three-digit

phonebook entry number, then pressing and holding
.
standby mode Your phone may turn off the backlight to save power when in standby mode. The
backlight comes back on whenever you press a key.
standby time The length of time your phone is on but not used for talking.
status indicator See indicator.
status light The light on top of your phone that indicates your current type of service and message
status. You can adjust this setting.
submenu A secondary level of your phone's menu system hierarchy.

TTY device A device that receives voice signals and displays them as text.
talk time The total time that you can talk on the phone before your battery is fully discharged.
text messages Brief text messages, sometimes including phone numbers or URLs
three-way call An analog feature that lets you link two other people so that the three of you can
participate in a single conversation. For digital systems, see: conference call .
timer Tracks the amount of time you spend on calls. Time is broken down into five different categories.

title (interactive services) You can enter an interactive service's title as a shortcut to opening the
service.
toggle To switch between two possible options, for example: on versus off.

TrueSync
Software that lets you copy data between your phone and a computer.
type (phonebook entry) Identifies the type of phone number stored for the phonebook entry.
Options are: work, home, main, mobile, fax, or pager.
