5. Pushstarterbuttonto start engine.
To prolongstarterlife, useshort startingcycles(5 secondsmaximum
then wait one minute).
6. Oncethe enginestarts,releasestarterbutton.
7. Allowtheengine to warmup severalminutes,adjustingchoke
towardRUNposition.Wait untilengineruns smoothlybeforeeach
chokeadjustment.
8. Whendisconnecting the extensioncord, alwaysunplugthe end
at the three-prongwalloutlet beforeunpluggingthe oppositeend
from the snowthrower.
Recoil Starter
1. Rotatechoke controlto CHOKE IJl position.
2. Depressprimer.If it is 15°For higherpushprimertwo times,if
below15°F, p ushprimerfourtimes.
3. PushStopswitchto ONposition.
4. Graspthe recoilstarterhandleand slowlypull the ropeout. At
the pointwhereit becomesslightlyharderto pull the rope,slowly
allowthe ropeto recoil.
5. Pull the starterhandlewith a firm, rapid stroke.Donot release
the handleand allowit to snap back.Keepa firm hold on the
starterhandleand allowit to slowlyrecoil.
6. Allowtheengine to warmup severalminutes,adjustingchoke
towardRUNposition.Wait untilengineruns smoothlybeforeeach
chokeadjustment.
To avoidunsupervised engineoperation,neverleavethe machine
unattended with the engine running.Turnthe engineoff after useand
removeignitionkey.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
After youare finishedsnow-throwing, r un enginefor a few minutes
beforestoppingto help dry off any moistureon the engine.
1. PushStopswitchto OFFposition.
2. Removetheignitionkey and store in a safe place.
3. Wipeall snowand moisturefrom thearea aroundthe engineas
wellas the area in and aroundthe drivecontroland auger control.
Also,engageand releasebothcontrolsseveraltimes.
NOTE:NEVERrepositiontheshift lever(changespeedsor direction
of travel)withoutfirst releasingthe drivecontrol and bringingthe snow
throwerto a completestop.Doingsowill resultin premature wearto
the snow thrower'sdrivesystem.
TO ENGAGE AUGERS
1. Toengagethe augersand startthrowingsnow,squeezethe
auger controlagainstthe left handle.Releaseto stop theaugers.
REPLACING SHEAR PINS
The augersare securedto the spiralshaftwith four shearpinsand
bow-tieclips. If the augershouldstrikea foreignobject or icejam,
the snow throweris designedsothat the shearpins mayshear.If the
augerswill notturn, checkto see if the pins havesheared.See Figure
11.
NEVERreplacethe augershearpinswith anythingotherthan Sears
SKU#88389/OEM PartNo. 738-04124A replacement s hearpins.
Anydamageto theauger gearboxor other components as a resultof
failingto do sowill NOTbe coveredbyyour snowthrower'swarranty.
Alwaysturn off thesnow thrower'sengineand removethe key priorto
replacingshearpins.

TO ENGAGE DRIVE
1. Moveshift leverintoone of the six forward(F) positionsor two
reverse(R) positions.Selecta speedappropriatefor the snow
conditionsand a paceyou'recomfortablewith.
NOTE: Whenselectinga DriveSpeed,usethe slowerspeedsuntil
youare comfortableand familiarwith the operationof the snow
thrower.
