Introduction and General Information
•
Management through the Internet using the EWS interface installed on the
Director or Switch. This interface supports configuration, statistics monitoring,
and basic operation of the product, but does not offer all the capabilities of the
corresponding Product Manager application. Administrators launch the web
server interface from a remote PC by entering the product's IP address as the
Internet uniform resource locator (URL), then entering a user name and password
at a login screen. The PC browser then becomes a management console.
•
Management through a PC-based Telnet session using the command line interface
(CLI). Any platform that supports Telnet client software can be used.
Figure 1–1
illustrates an example of out-of-band product management. In the figure,
the managed product is a Director 2/64. The "customer intranet" could be as simple as
an HP Ethernet hub to connect these devices.
