Rebuilding Source Device and Re-establishing Replication

If the entire source VLS device was destroyed (for example, you had a site disaster) and was
replaced with a brand new blank device, then you must recreate the original virtual library
configuration and replication configuration. If you have a previously saved configuration file
(created using Save Configuration in the VLS GUI) you can perform a "Restore Configuration" in
the VLS GUI (loading in a previous saved configuration). Alternatively you can manually recreate
the original virtual library configuration and replication configuration.
There is currently no method of restoring the entire deduplicated set of cartridges from the target
VLS to the source VLS. Once your source VLS is rebuilt and reconfigured and you have restored
your servers, you must start backups again to the source device and then repeat the initialization
process after the first full backup is finished.
NOTE:
If you need to re-initialize the replication system using tape initialization, then you must
create your echo copy pools with the "Initialize via Tape Transport" option enabled and then
repeat the tape initialization process. This means if you used "Restore Configuration" to recreate
your replication configuration you must delete your Echo Copy pools and recreate them.

Rebuilding Target Device and Re-establishing Replication

If the entire target VLS device was destroyed (for example, you had a site disaster) and was replaced
with a brand new blank device, or you rebuilt storage pools on the target device, there is currently
no method of re-replicating the entire deduplicated set of cartridges from the source VLS to the
target VLS. Once your target VLS is repaired/rebuilt and reconfigured, subsequent backups to the
source device will be replicated without deduplication until the next full backup is finished. This
effectively requires the replication to be re-initialized.
If you can use the network to re-initialize and have a saved configuration file for the target device,
use the following procedure:
1.
On the source VLS: Before the target device is reconfigured, set the affected replication libraries
offline. In a many-to-one configuration you must do this on all sources connected to the target.
This prevents replication from trying to perform any activity while the target is being restored.
2.
On the target VLS: You must recreate the original virtual library configuration and replication
configuration. If you have a previously saved configuration file (created using Save
Configuration in the VLS GUI) you can load the saved configuration using Restore Configuration
in the VLS GUI.
3.
On the target VLS: Recreate matching barcodes in the correct libraries in the correct slots. If
multiple replication targets exist within the same virtual library, you must create the bar codes
in the correct slots as defined by the replication target.
4.
On the source VLS: Set the replication library online. In the firmware version 3.4.0, cartridges
that were previously "In Sync" will still be shown in this state in the GUI even though they are
actually blank on the replication target. All 'Out of Sync' cartridges should resume replication.
(Any "In Sync" cartridges that are modified will go "Out of Sync" and therefore be replicated.)
Initial backups will be whole cartridge replicated because there is no data on the target VLS.
5.
On the source VLS: If using a many-to-one configuration, repeat
devices.
If you do not have a saved configuration file or want to use tape initialization:
1.
On the source VLS: Delete all echo copy pools that are replicating to the target VLS.
2.
On the source VLS: Un-manage the replication libraries associated with the target VLS.
3.
On the source VLS: Delete the cartridges if a new barcode will be created on the target VLS
(optional).
4.
On the source VLS: In a many-to-one configuration, perform
connecting to the target VLS.
5.
On the target VLS: Manually recreate the target configuration.
