Securing Universal Mount Safety Cable - Example 2
Option 2: Some local safety codes require ceiling fans to be secured directly to the building structure (Canada, Singapore). Check your local safety code if you are unsure. Contact Customer Service for help. If required, loop provided safety cable through safety cable from downrod and route other end to building structure.

Anchor Hook
Wrap upper end of safety cable around anchor hook. Secure with shackle.

Install Airfoils

If installing multiple fans, do not mix airfoils from diff erent motor units. Each set of airfoils must be installed on the motor unit the airfoils shipped with.

  1. Before installing the airfoils, make sure the numbers 1 through 6 on the bottom of the fan are centered in the six openings, and make sure the two yellow tabs next to numbers 1 and 5 are visible. You may need to push in the yellow tabs and rotate the fan hub until all six numbers are visible and centered.
Installing Airfoils on a Universal Mount - Step 1
  2. Before installing the airfoils, use the provided T-handle hex key to loosen the six recessed hex bolts above each number. Do NOT loosen the six Phillips head screws below each number. Loosen all six recessed hex bolts until both yellow tabs have descended as far as they will go. The airfoils cannot be inserted into the motor unit until all six hex bolts are fully loosened and both yellow tabs are all the way down.
Make sure both yellow tabs are all the way down.
Installing Airfoils on a Universal Mount - Step 2
  3. Slide the airfoils into the slots on the sides of the motor unit as shown. Install each airfoil on the opposite side of the fan from the previous airfoil to prevent the fan from tilting. Make sure all airfoils are fully seated in the slots and that the numbered sticker on each airfoil matches the corresponding number on the bottom of the fan. Do NOT tighten the six recessed hex bolts until all airfoils are inserted.
Installing Airfoils on a Universal Mount - Step 3
  4. Use the provided T-handle hex key to tighten the six recessed hex bolts above each number on the bottom of the fan according to the numbered sequence. Do NOT tighten or loosen the six Phillips head screws below each number. Give each hex bolt three full turns with the hex key before moving to the next bolt in the sequence. Continue giving each hex bolt three turns in the numbered sequence until all six bolts are fully tightened and the yellow tabs next to numbers 1 and 5 are flush with the tab openings.
Installing Airfoils on a Universal Mount - Step 4

Install Light Kit or Lower Cover

To reduce the risk of electric shock, disconnect power to fan before installing light kit.

UNIVERSAL MOUNT - Installing Light Kit/Lower Cover
Plug light kit wiring harness into receptacle on bottom of fan. Align slots on light or lower cover with tabs on bottom of fan and twist light or lower cover clockwise to lock.

Use only light kits marked "Suitable for Use in Damp Locations."
Use only light kit model 010450. Light Kit Weight: 2.2 lb (998 g)

Secure Guy Wires of Outdoor Fans

UNIVERSAL MOUNT - Securing Outdoor Fan Guy Wires
Attach eye bolts to mounting structure so that guy wires will be approximately 45° from downrod when viewed from the side and approximately 90° from each other when viewed from above.
Route each guy wire through a cable hanger, through the eye bolt, and back through the hanger. Evenly cinch all four guy wires into place using hangers. Do not tighten hangers until all guy wires are installed.

0–10 V WIRING

(for fans ordered with 0–10 V option)
The fan and light are programmed for sinking 0–10 V control by default. To change to sourcing control, contact Customer Service or visit bigassfans.com/support

  • When the fan is wired for 0–10 V control, all other fan controls, including the remote control and mobile app, are disabled.
  • Input signal is job dependent and could be a 0–10 V wall dimmer or automation controller supplying a 0–10 V signal.
  • Use solid or stranded wire: 20–14 AWG / 0.518–2.08 mm
  • The number of fans that can be daisy chained depends on the 0–10 V controller load. We do not recommend daisy chaining more than ten fans to one controller.

Install controllers

Fans wired for 0–10 V control require two separate 0–10 V channels for light and fan control. For full functionality, two wall controllers are required, or one automation controller with multiple 0–10 V channels is required. Consult the instructions included with the wall controller or automation controller you are installing for product specific wiring diagrams and specifications. Make sure each controller has a maximum current capacity of 2 mA or higher.

Wire the Unit

0–10 V WIRING - Wiring the fan
Universal Mount Fans: Route 0–10 V wiring into downrod and connect to 0–10 V wires on motor unit before securing downrod to fan (Universal Mount steps 2 and 3).
Flush Mount Fans: Route 0–10 V wiring through mounting plate and connect to 0–10 V wires on motor unit after hanging fan (Flush Mount step 3).

*If the 0–10 V wiring is not connected for the light, the light will default to full brightness. If you want the light to remain off at all times, insert both light 0–10 V input channel wires into the same Light wire connector.

Removing Covers and Light Kit

0–10 V WIRING - Removing Covers and Light Kit
Use a long, thin object such as a small allen wrench or pen tip to press tab on wiring cover, light kit, or lower cover. While pressing tab, turn cover or light kit counterclockwise and slide down to remove.
