Preparing the Hard Disk Drive

Make sure docking station power is off, the NEC
Versa is not docked, peripheral devices are discon-
nected, and cables are detached from the docking
station before beginning installation procedures.
The NEC Versa Docking Station 4000 has built-in IDE and
SCSI controllers. However, some hard disk drives require
that you install a controller board. Before installing a drive
that requires a controller board, install the board as de-
scribed in "Expansion Boards."
See the documentation that comes with the
drive for specific cabling instructions.
Before starting the installation , check the following.
n
The interface of your hard disk must match the interface
of the hard disk controller. For example, an IDE hard
disk requires an IDE hard disk controller.
If you are installing another controller board,
you must disable the built-in IDE. This is done
through the Setup or Automatic Configuration utility
that comes with your NEC Versa system. See your
NEC Versa series user's guide for more information.
