Chapter 1: Connections and Setup

Explanation of the Remote Control Buttons

(in alphabetical order)
You can use this remote to operate the DVD/VCR, and to access the features available.
The descriptions that follow describe how each button works when operating the DVD/VCR. Many
buttons will perform different functions depending upon the type of disc and menu functions of the
disc.
0-9 (Number buttons) Use the number buttons to input information such as chapter numbers,
track numbers, to make selections on some menu screens, and/or to change channels.
Arrow buttons (up, down, left, right) Use the arrow buttons to highlight options that appear on the
screen (the arrow buttons move the highlight in the corresponding directions—up arrow moves the
highlight up; left arrow moves the highlight left, etc.).
CH. UP Goes to the next channel in the channel list when watching TV.
CH. DOWN When watching TV, goes to the previous channel in the channels list.
ENTER When a menu is on the screen, selects the highlighted item.
ON/STANDBY Turns the DVD/VCR on and off.
PSCAN Toggles the available output modes for high defi nition resolution (480i, 480p, 720p, and
1080i).
SETUP Brings up the DVD/VCR's main menu.
SOURCE Toggles the Input jacks on the Recorder (Tuner (cable/antenna), Front AV, and Front SV
(S-video), Rear AV, Rear SV (S-video), and DV (Mini DV).
TRK +/- (Tracking) Adjusts the tracking for the tape.
DISC OPER This button has no function for this product.
DISPLAY Displays the on-screen Info Display (for details about the Info Display, go to page 32.)
COPY Allows a once touch recording to transfer tape the disc and disc to tape.
VCR Buttons
A-B Set the A and B points for A-B repeat.
COUNTER RESET Resets the tape counter to zero.
GO TO ZERO Cues the tape to the when the tape counter is zero.
FORWARD Searches forward through the tape.
PAUSE/STEP Pauses tape playback or recording. Also advances the frame when paused.
PLAY Begins tape playback.
RECORD Records programming.
REPEAT Toggles the available repeat modes.
SLOW FWD +/– Advances the tape in slow motion.
SKIP F. (Skip forward) Searches forward through a tape.
SKIP R. (Skip reverse) Searches backward through a tape.
SP/SLP Toggles the tape speed between SP and SLP.
STOP/EJECT Stops playback or recording. Also ejects a tape.
TIMER Sets the DVD/VCR for timer recordings.
TIMER PROG Allows you to quickly access the Timer Recordings list or setup a new timer
recording.
