Before requesting service for a problem, use this chart and see if you can solve the trouble yourself. Small problems are
often easily solved, and this can save you the trouble of sending your unit off for repair.
GENERAL
SYMPTOM
1. No power is supplied to the unit.
2. The channel cannot be changed.
3. The Remote does not operate the unit.
4. Dubbing from the external equipment
is not possible.
5. The on-screen display superimposed
on the program played back/received
on this unit is recorded when you dub
the program to an external recording
equipment.
6. The Remote does not work properly.
7. The unit does not operate.
PLAYBACK
SYMPTOM
1. Images do not appear on the TV
screen.
2. Playback dose not start or stop
immediately after playback is started
by pressing 4.
On the front display panel, "NO DISC"
appears.
3. Images are blurred or distorted when
you start High-Speed Search.
4. Playback does not start.
5. Playback does not start when you
select a title or a chapter.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
The AC power plug is disconnected from
the mains.
Recording or Live Memory recording is
in progress.
The setting of the remote control code is
inappropriate.
The batteries are discharged.
The setting of the input channel position
is inappropriate.

The batteries are discharged.
There are cases when the operation is
prohibited on the disc.
Lightning or static electricity may cause
malfunction of the unit.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
The TV is not set to the AV mode.
When interlace scanned program is
played back, progressive scan mode is
selected.
The disc is loaded upside down.
A disc not being compatible with the
unit is loaded.
A dirty disc is loaded.
Defective disc is loaded.

The Parental Lock is engaged and the
disc is rated higher than the set level.
TROUBLESHOOTING
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Connect the AC power plug to the mains
securely. (

Press 9 to pause recording, change the
channel, then press 4 to resume
recording.
Set the same remote control code (1, 2, 3,
or 4) on both the unit and the Remote.

Replace the dead batteries with new ones.
Select the input channel position ("F-1",
"L-1", or "L-2") that corresponds to the
input terminal connected to the external
equipment. (

Set "SUPERIMPOSE" to "OFF".

playback surface facing downward.
