Hardware installation This section provides information on installing or replacing drives, memory modules, expansion cards, expansion units, redundant power supply units, system fans, and rail kits.

Important QNAP recommends always using dual-path configuration to prevent storage downtime due to expansion unit failure or cable disconnection. Single-path configuration should be used only in a situation where it is not possible to use dual-path configuration.

    You can also install the QNAP QTS operating system. If your NAS is connected to the internet, the option to install QTS will appear in the Smart Installation Guide wizard using any of the methods in the table. You can also manually download the QTS firmware from https://download.qnap.com.

Initializing QuTS hero using the cloud installation website You can initialize QuTS hero on the cloud installation website, which is designed to help you set up QNAP devices. Warning Initializing QuTS hero deletes all data on the drives.

The wizard downloads the latest available version, and then the NAS restarts after the download is complete. If a newer version is not available, the wizard automatically displays the Smart Installation Guide.
