Rotate the spool slightly until it is seated. The line should
protrude approximately 136mm from the housing.
Align the tabs on the spool cap with the slots in the hous-
u
ing.
Push the cap onto the housing until it snaps securely into
u
place.
Rewinding spool from bulk line
Bulk line is also available for purchase from your local retailer.
Note: Hand wound spools from bulk line are likely to become
tangled more frequently than BLACK+DECKER factory wound
spools.
For best results, factory wound spools are recommended. To
install bulk line, follow the steps below:
Remove battery from appliance.
u
Remove the empty spool from the appliance as described
u
in "Replacing the spool."
Remove any remaining cutting line from the spool.
u
Make a fold at the end of the cutting line at about 19mm
u
(27). Feed the cutting line into one of the line anchoring
slots (28) as shown in Figure T.
Insert the 19mm end of the bulk line into the hole (29) in
u
the spool adjacent to the slot as shown in Figure U. Make
sure the line is pulled tight against the spool as shown in
Figure U.
Wind the cutting line onto the spool in the direction of the
u
arrow on the spool. Make sure to wind the line on neatly
and in layers. Do not crisscross (Figure V1).
When the wound cutting line reaches the recesses (30),
u
cut the line (Figure U).
Fit the spool onto the appliance as described in "Replac-
u
ing the spool".
Replacing string unit with resin blade unit.
(Fig W1-W3)
Locate Allen Key (31) in its storage area in (5a) located
u
above Resin blade storage (13) on Auxilliary handle (5).
as shown in Figure W1.
Remove Spool cap (24) and remove spool (32) from spool
u
housing (11).
Unscrew the screw (33) counter clockwise, using the Allen
u
Key (31) and remove from Motor unit. As shown in Figure
W2.
Locate the resin blade unit (12) onto the drive shaft in the
u
motor unit and secure with screw (33) using the Allen Key
(31).
Fitting resin blades to Resin blade unit (Fig.
X1, X2, X3)
Slip large diameter hole on resin blade (12a) over silver
u
post (12b) on resin blade unit (12) as shown in Figure X1.
Push down to align with cutout.
u
Pull outwards until you hear/feel a 'click' as shown in
u
Figure X2.

Replace blades when they reduce in length (as shown in
u
image X3) to less than 50mm.
Always replace both blades at the same time.
u
Always ensure that both cutting blades are properly
u
mounted before starting work.
Operating the trimmer with only one blade will reduce
u
cutting performance and may damage the trimmer.
Replacing resin blade unit with string unit.
(Fig W1-W3)
Locate Allen Key (31) in its storage area in (5a) located
u
above Resin blade storage (13) on Auxilliary handle (5).
as shown in Figure W1.
Insert tool into hole in resin blade unit (12) and find head
u
of screw. Unscrew screw (33).
When screw (33) is loose, remove from head housing
u
along with head and set aside.
Remove cap from string spool housing.
u
Locate spool driving feature on shaft. Housing should slip
u
into place.
Place screw in center column of spool housing.
u
Tighten screw.
u
Replace spool housing cap.
u

Maintenance

Your BLACK+DECKER corded/cordless appliance/tool has
been designed to operate over a long period of time with a
minimum of maintenance.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool/
appliance care and regular cleaning.
Your charger does not require any maintenance apart from
regular cleaning.
Warning! Before performing any maintenance on corded/
cordless power tools:
Switch off and unplug the appliance/tool.
u
Or switch off and remove the battery from the appliance/
u
tool if the appliance/tool has a separate battery pack.
Or run the battery down completely if it is integral and then
u
switch off.
Unplug the charger before cleaning it. Your charger does
u
not require any maintenance apart from regular cleaning.
Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool/appliance
u
and charger using a soft brush or dry cloth.
Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth. Do
u
not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
Regularly clean cutting line, spool and/or blade using a
u
soft brush or dry cloth.
Regularly use a blunt scraper to remove grass and dirt
u
from the underneath of the guard.
