Alternatively, you may connect to 12 V DC in a car. Connecting to power You can connect the DC input to power without the battery inserted. InthismodeyouhavefullaccesstotheEXPLORER300,thatisyoucanusethemenusystemand communicate on the BGANnetwork. The display will show READYwhen the menu system is not activated. “Off-line” procedure (2) After power on, enter the PIN, but cancel pointing. Inthismodeyoucanusethemenusystem,butarenotabletocommunicateontheBGAN network.

ThefirsttimeyouareaskedforaPIN,youcanchoosetocancel(pressC).Ifyoucancel,youare askedagainafterpointingiscompleted.AtthatpointyoumustenterthePINtobeableto continue. EnterthePUKfollowedbyanewPINofyourownchoice.ThePINmustbefrom4to8digitslong. IfyouenterawrongPUK10times,theSIMcardwillnolongerbefunctional,and Important youhavetocontactyourAirtimeProviderforanewSIMcard. The importance of pointing Inordertoobtainthebestpossiblesignalatthelowest possiblecost,itisimportantthattheEXPLORER300 antennaispointedcorrectlytowardsthesatellite. Theantennamusthaveaclearlineofsighttothe satellitewithoutanyobstaclesblockingthesignal,and the pointing direction of the antenna should be as accurate aspossible. Incorrectpointingmayresultinpoorqualityofthesignal,andinsomecases Important retransmissionmaybenecessary.Thiscouldmeanyouwillbepayingmorethan necessary for yourtransmission. Thecompasshas7linesdividingtheElevationscaleinto6 spaces.Thespacebetweentwolinescorrespondsto15°. TheElevationismeasuredwherethelinesmeet.Thiscompass showsanElevationof 30°(2spacesupfromthefirstline)and anAzimuthof270°(antennapointingtowardsWest). Theaboveexplanationassumesthatthecompassshowstheexactorientation.Please Note takeintoconsiderationthepossibledeviationandvariationthatcanoccur,e.g.because ofthegeographicallocationorthepresenceofmagneticobjects. Required signal strength Asaruleofthumb,thesignalstrengthshouldtypicallybe41dBHzormorefortheEXPLORER300 tobeabletoestablishacallordatasession.However,therequiredsignalstrengthcanvary dependingonanumberoffactors,suchasweatherconditionsandlocation. Obtaining TheEXPLORER300mustacquireitsownlocationfromthesatellitesbeforeitcanregisteron theBGANnetwork.Thisiscalledobtainingafix. Iftheplacedinanopenlocationwithawideviewtothesky,theEXPLORER300will probablyobtaintheautomaticallywhileyouarepointingtowardstheBGANsatellite. However,ifpartoftheviewtotheskyisblocked,and/ortheElevationisverylow,itmay sometimesbedifficultfor“see”asufficientnumberofsatellites.Insuch circumstances, try thefollowing: Placetheantennaflatonanevensurface,pointingstraightupwardswithaclearviewtoas...

Thedisplayshowstheprogressasfollows: • SEARCHING: TheEXPLORER300searchesforthenetworkoperator.Notethatthesearchprocedurecan beveryshort,soyoumaynotseethistext. • REGISTERING: The EXPLORER 300 is registering itself on the network. If the GPS position has not yet been acquired at this point, the display may show NO GPS.
