Controlling Exposure: The Exposure Options Menu

The exposure options sub-menu contains two
options for controlling exposure.
Taking Multiple Photographs with the Same Exposure: AE Lock
When taking a series of photographs that will later
be joined to form a single image (for example,
when taking shots for a panorama or 360 ° virtual-
reality image), you may wish to use the same ex-
posure, sensitivity, and white-balance settings for
all images in the series. This task can be performed
using AE-lock.
Option
Off
Restores normal exposure, sensitivity, and white balance.
The first photo taken after On is selected sets exposure (shutter
On
speed, aperture, sensitivity, and white balance) for all subsequent
photographs. The flash is turned off while AE lock is in effect.
Clears existing exposure settings. The first photograph taken after
Reset
this option is selected sets exposure (shutter speed, aperture,
sensitivity, and white balance) for all subsequent photographs.
Confirming AE-Lock Settings
While AE-Lock is in effect, AE-L (AE Lock) and
WB-L (White-Balance Lock) icons appear in the
monitor. These icons turn yellow to indicate that
exposure for subsequent photographs will be
locked with the next shot, either because you have
just chosen On or Reset in the AE-Lock menu, or
because you have selected a new value for white
balance, shutter speed, or aperture.
